The Wonderful Adventures of Nils
This is the first anime I saw, probably I was around 4 years. Also, the first novel I read. I am not saying it is the best, but I loved it.

steins gate was awesome.
There are too many anime to call any of them "the best". They all have different genres after all. Code geass was a masterpiece. Mainstreams (bleach, naruto, one piece) aren't bad either although I don't like one piece. I've seen plenty of good anime. If I had to place a "best" list, I'd end up putting a giant list down here.

Ao no exorcist bakemonogatari ben-to Chrome Shelled Regios Clannad + afterstory Code geass S1&2 Deadman Wonderland Death Note Elfen Lied fate/stay series guilty crown hellsing korewa zombie desu ka sword art online mai-hime Ookami to Koushinryou S1&2 Shakugan no shana 1-3 Soul eater vampire knight working Kuro****suji kanon new version got a feeling I'm forgetting quite a lot of animes. Oh well, this'll get you started.
