A good, powerful laptop that has good battery life. By good, I mean 4+ Hours. My current has been used so much it has about...10 minutes battery life XD.

what do you want to do with it? if you expect to watch movies for 4 hours then any laptop with a 12 cell battery will get you pretty close.
as far as brands go, HP is too expensive but very good if you want to spend the cash, i'd go for lenovo (previously ibm) as they offer good price to value / service ratio.

if you can tell me exactly what you want to do with it and maybe some specifications i can give you a more precise answer.

Mostly just word processing, but I would also like good performance. This would most likely be a computer to take notes during classes, I could use another for home use such as games.

in that case i would probably go for a
Lenovo ThinkPad SL400


very nice allround machine, lightweight with a 14 inch screen.
not to small so you have to squint but small enough to be able to carry it around comfortably.
just make sure you get the 9cell or 12cell(if available) battery upgrade

if you order it straight from the lenovo site (www.lenovo.com) you can edit the specs as you want it, which will either make it cheaper or more expensive.
probably cheaper though since they used the almost maxed out version in that review.

i know MSI is making a new laptop and a 9 cell battery expected to have 4-10 hours depending on the power useage of the laptop.

no play time i have a msi 6 cell battery dual core 2-2 GH/z and playing game time i get 3-3.5 hours

the new laptops that the 9 cells are for will be alot more powerful mine wont fit one *tear* new ones are dal core 2.6-3.2 and they may be puttingout a quad core 2.2

those are pretty expensive machines though.

the dual cores are going to be 2-3.5 grand depending on ram HD ect nd not sure on quad cores yet.

Quad cores are a good $6,000 here depending on other parts. That is laptop of course.
