The only time I ever really get stressed is in my job when I have had very little sleep over a period of a few weeks and my inbox is getting bombarded with 200-300 emails a day. When that happens I go for a quick five minute walk to get some air, call a close friend and talk about anything other than work.

You can deal with depression by trying not to put up with it, throw it away. It's simple. Once you realize depression is something you can control, you'll manage to cease it. Question is, can you control it?

Now you see Ahmed, I'm going to teach you something real quick. What Deathclaw said is what we would call "/thread." It's when the OP gets the optimal answer. Did you not read the OT ruler manual?

Depression is not simple.
Antidepressants also don't make you happy, I found. They simply dull the blade, so it doesn't feel like it hurts as much. Works for some, but not for all. If you're really having trouble and going to very dark spots, I wouldn't overlook them. But changes in lifestyle can also be useful for less serious cases. Exercise, improved diet, finding a positive hobby, and even something simple like taking care of a pet. But that definitely requires commitment and responsibility. It can get to seem like a hassle, so I wouldn't say go that route unless you are confident you can manage it, regardless of personal problems. It won't be just about you, anymore. But believe me, they can be a bright spot in some of the darkest places.

I know what those dark spots feel like, but there's no way I'd grab antidepressants.

They aren't for everyone, but sometimes you can't overcome depression with willpower. Bad enough depression will eat away all of your willpower. Just getting out of bed can be nearly impossible. For some people, antidepressants are exactly what they need, to give them just enough willpower to actually do something and take steps towards overcoming it. So maybe they aren't for you, but you should not discourage others from taking them, because they do work for many people. I don't know that I'd be here now if not for antidepressants, honestly.

I wouldn't know, and the experiences each individual go through are obviously different. I'd just personally prefer avoiding particular side effects that they may carry.

You're right, if you don't need them, then don't take them. But often the benefits outweigh any side effects. Each person must decide for themselves what they need, or what risks are worth taking.

I honestly felt the same way, but there are definitely limits. There may come a time where you will try almost anything to stop feeling like you do. You hit that point, and they might not seem so crazy. I can promise you that.
