THE FORUM FAQ (under construction)
Please do realize there is more than one post to this FAQ, read all the posts and not just the first one.

Q: I have a problem with the conquer client (ANY PROBLEM)
A: Follow these steps.
1. Install DirectX v9.0c.
2. Update your videocard driver.
- nVidia Graphics
- ATI Series
- Creative Series
- 3dfx Series
- Intel Series
- Matrox Series
- S3 Graphics
3. Install eastern asian languages and set font size.
4. Uninstall and reinstall conquer and the full patch.

These are the client's and most recent full patch's file sizes, CRC's and MD5 hash's. You can download free CRC/MD5 checking programs across the net. If the numbers do not match, chances are your client/patch is corrupt and should be redownloaded.

Common Errors And Possible Solutions
  1. The procedure entry point ?Phy_DrawAlpha@@YAHPAUC#Phy@@HKK@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library C3_CORE_DLL.dll.
    This comes from a corrupt C3_CORE_DLL.dll file located in Conquer's root folder. You can download a working copy from the following posts.
  2. The procedure entry point _DXCloseAllMedia@0 could not be located in the dynamic link library NDSound.dll.
    This comes from a corrupt NDSound.dll file located Conquer's root folder. You can download a working copy from one of the following posts.
  3. The dynamic link library MSVCP60.dll could not be found in the specified path C:/Program Files/Conquer 1.0; etc...
    This is a Windows system file. Most updated systems have the file installed by default. If you haven't updated or fear visiting Windows Update, you can download a working copy from one of the following posts.
  4. The ordinal 11 could not not be located in the dymanic link library DSOUND.dll / The NDSOUND.DLL file is linked to missing export DSOUND.DLL:11.
    This comes from an outdated version of DirectX. Install DirectX v9.0c to solve this problem.
  5. DirectX error: Display acceleration support is out of order. Please confirm your current display mode is 16 bits, and check if your display driver is installed correctly.
    Unfortunately this can stem from multiple problems. To identify your card, do the following:
    - Start -> Run -> DxDiag.exe. When DirectX diagnostics opens go to the Display Tab and under device name you'll see the name of your card as well as it's VRAM.
    Most common issues include:
    - Your card is simply not supported.
    - CO is unable to change your desktop settings on it's own and you must do it manually.
    - Your card is using the default (vga.dll), outdated or incorrect driver. If your card came preinstalled, it may have customized drivers available only from the retailer. If you put in the card yourself or know it wasn't customized, you can download drivers from the perspective maker. URL's are in this FAQ thread.
  6. I try to type my name on the game's Login screen but nothing appears. / I'm having trouble logging in.
    - All users must have their desktop set to 96dpi. Some high res desktop and laptop users have it set to 120. This can be fixed by rightclicking the desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> 96dpi/Normal.
    - Win98SE and WinME have trouble with the login screen. To make your text appear as you type your login, hold the ALT key.
    - The Login Screen accepts input based on a QWERTY Keyboard. If you use a different one, you'll have to adjust your input accordingly.
    - Username and password are cAsE sEnSiTiVe.
    - Make sure you've applied all the necessary patches for your client. Which clients need which patches is listed in this thread as well as the Mirrors thread. Manual patching is more reliable than autopatching for most people.
    - Note that Conquer Online 2.0 Standard and Conquer Online 2.0 Test Client are two different games and should not be mixed. Do not download the Test Client if you did not sign up for the test server.
  7. I keep getting disconnected with Error: Failed to load/create xxxxxxx.c3/xxxxxx.dds/xxxxxx.ani/xxxxxx.ini
    One or more of your files have become corrupt usually due to a bad installation or patching. Sometimes even a bad client download is used for installation. Some of the more common error files are attached in threads throughout this forum. However a reinstall/repatch/redownload is suggested.
  8. Unexpected End Of Archive / Error extracting / CRC failed in
    Your download/patch is corrupt. Redownloading the client/full patch is the only solution. Using your browser is not recommended for downloading the client or patch. Use a download manager such as GetRight, FlashGet or Download Accelerator. The torrent is the best source, as it checks what you've downloaded for corruption and fixes as it goes on it's own.
  9. Socket Error: 10060 - Connection Timed Out / Servers Are Purple / What Ports Does CO Use?
    This is caused by an internal block, attempt to connect to the wrong/non existent IP or an ISP problem.
    - Corrupt/incomplete installs sometimes attempt to connect to wrong IP causing this error.
    - Some of the 'popular' firewalls are stuck on stupid or have the settings set to not display net alerts. When an .exe with net access is updated, it doesn't prompt the user of this change and blocks the updated file without informing the user. How to resolve this can be found searching online.
    - Your firewall/router may need ports opened. Consult your firewall's/router's manual for instructions on how to go about this procedure. The required ports are 9528, 9958 and 5816 all Outgoing TCP.
    - Run a traceroute to the autopatch server and see if the connection gets through. The IPs can be found by checking your firewall logs or searching the forum. If your trace gets through, then it's most likely a problem with your firewall/CO Install. If even that times out or has high pings then the problem may be ISP related.
  10. Socket Error: 10061 - Connection Refused by Remote Server
    This error occurs often unfortunately. The autopatch server has either become overloaded, is down or is under maintenance.
  11. Windows cannot find 'autopatch.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
    The patches you download from the web are manual patches, not 'smart' patches. They do not automatically find the CO install and patch it. You must place the file inside the CO folder before running it.
  12. My Autopatch takes forever to download patches/gets stuck downloading.
    Download the Full Patch manually from Conquer's Homepage or this list of mirrors and install them.
  13. My CO/PC keeps crashing.
    This can be caused by multiple problems.
    - Crashing on Login Attempt
    The site allows 16 char passwords, but the game only allows 14. Make sure your pass is no longer than 14.
    - CO is not installed properly
    Try reinstalling at least once.
    - Outdated graphics drivers or graphics card
    Supported and unsupported graphics cards are listed.
    - Overheating of your graphics card
    Make sure the area around your tower/laptop is clear and allows your system to breathe. Compare temperatures before and while running CO.
  14. After patching my Autopatch/Conquer won't connect.
    This is usually due to firewalls or virus scanners with some form of Application Monitoring. This ability checks *.exe files for changes and will block any changed file from accessing the net and sometimes even running. Most FWs/VSs are configured to display a notice about this and let the user choose to allow the changed .exe but others are not.
    - Option 1) Remove autopatch.exe and conquer.exe from the listing and let their new versions be detected so you recieve a popup.
    - Option 2) Return net/run permissions to autopatch.exe and conquer.exe so they can continue normally.

Due to an update in the graphics engine in March 2005, the following graphics cards are no longer supported.:
- Any card based on ATI's Rage Chipset and ATI-264VT4
- Various Intel OnBoard graphics solutions.
- nVidia Cards Prior to GeForce2 MX400
- Any S3 card listed on this page: S3 Obsolete/Discontinued Cards as well as others that aren't.
- Cards that do not meet the minimum requirements of 16MB (yes you have to take it seriously). To check your VRAM, click Start -> Run -> DxDiag.exe. When DirectX Diagnostics opens go to the Display Tab and under device name you'll see the name of your card as well as it's VRAM.

Update for CO2: CO2's graphics engine is even more strict about old cards than CO1. You will have troubles if you're using old cards and drivers. Intel cards are unstable with the game, be they old or new. ATi Radeon 9200+ and GeForce FX Series cards are recommended for use with this game.

NOTE: Radeon cards are known have have low performance issues with CO; this includes low FPS and other graphical errors. Some Omega Drivers have been known to fix some issues, and others have luck with Catalyst Drivers, please note however, they may not do anything for you. Always backup your current drivers/create a restore point before updating drivers.

TQ is collecting information and attempting to resolve these issues. If you have any problems, especially after a patch, please look for threads about the subject to post your information in to speed the fixing process, rather than creating new ones.

1. Why I get "Invalid account and password" error when I try to log in the game?
There are some cases will cause the problem. Before you try the following methods, try to install the total patch manually first. If it doesn't work, try the following:
(1) First, make sure you have input them correctly. Both of them are case sensitive.
(2) Check if your version is the latest; check it out in version.dat in game directory. If it has been it, go to the second reason. If not, you have to install the total patch, and then retry.
(3) Conquer login screen works on qwerty keyboard. Some players are using azerty keyboard so they cannot login to the game. qwerty and azerty keyboard have the difference as below, the left is the output of azerty keyboard while the right is qwerty. So if you use an azerty keyboard but not qwerty try inverting the keys:
a = q
q = a
z = w
w = z
, = m
(4) Sometimes the first character you input doesn't appear in the box but backspace automatically. If it is in this case, ignore it and just continue inputting them but not retype it, since the system has received the first character you input, if you re-enter it, you will get the error msg.
(5) If all the above methods don't work for you, you may have to reinstall the client.

There maybe another case that you can't input account and password, then try to hold down Alt and input them.

2. Your display font should be (small) 96 dpi to play Conquer. If it is not 96 dpi, you may encounter the following two problems:
(1). The login screen is cut and some icons like Enter or Exit won¡¯t show.
(2). The functional icons in game will be out of order (English and Chinese coexist) and don't work normally.
You can set the font step by step:
Right click on the desktop-> Properties->Settings->Advanced->¡_

3. DirectX error pops up when I try to log in to the game "DirectX error: Display acceleration support is out of order. Please confirm your current display mode is 16 bits, and if your display driver is installed correctly."
*First change the display color to be 16 bits: Right click on the desktop->Properties->Settings->¡_
*Install DirectX 8.1 or above
*Update your graphic driver which matches with your operating system and graphic card, you can refer to the link offered by shincy: http://bbs.conqueronline.com/showthr...hreadid=246313

4. There is no text in your game (including NPC dialogue, chatting message, message on board or bulletin and so on) or the text is weird and unreadable.
First, please try to reset the language and location settings:
From starting menu->settings->control panel->regional options->general->set your location to be 'English (United States)->set your language for the system to be Western Europe and United States (Default)->click ok.
If it doesn¡¯t work, it may due to no required language for Conquer installed in your computer, you may have to install Eastern language in your computer, you can refer to the link:
http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&Pr...lation_XP.html

5. If you keep getting the error msg: "Connecting failed due to server maintenance or internet congestion. Please re-login later."
(1) It is possible that the servers are brought down for maintenance when you tried to log in. The maintenance time is around 17:00 PST from Monday to Saturday while 22:00 on Sunday. You can also check the server status here:
http://servers.conqueronline.com/enzfweb.php
(2) If it is not maintenance time when you get the msg and it is your first time to play Conquer, you may check if your firewall is set too high or you have permit the port 9528 for Conquer. To change the settings, you may ask your friend who knows much about computer to help you. : P
(3) Sometimes it has something to do with the Norton Antivirus program if you have installed it on your computer, then you have to disable it:
Click on start menu->Control Panel->Management Tools->Service->Find Norton Antivirus->Disable it.

6. When you click on Setup.exe to install Conquer, but it appears to uninstall it¡ª"Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all its components?"
It is because you have installed it on your computer before or you don't uninstall it completely, then you have to uninstall it:
Start menu->Programs->Conquer2.0->Uninstall¡_
After you uninstall it completely, you can install it again.
You can also refer to the thread too:
http://bbs.conqueronline.com/showthr...&threadid=4847

7. When installing the patch manually, a message pop up saying that "Cannot find Autopatch.exe" something like that, what can I do?
It is because you don¡¯t install the patch in game directory.

8. About Lag:
The following may make you feel Laggy:
* Poor connection between your ISP and game Server
* Use macro program
* It has something to do with Player's PC configuration, the better Graphic card you use, the fewer lags you have
* Too many players are in the same map.

When you feel laggy, please try the following:
* Scan the virus
* Delete the log folder in conquer 2.0 folder
* Click on set up button to turn off shadow
* Do not run other programs
* Clean up the temporary files and empty recycled bin
* More free disk space

9. Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Conquer2.0\play.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Try to reinstall the client.

10. If the font in game is blurry, try to do the following:
Go to video card settings:
Right click on the desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > (then here look for your direct3D and openGL settings)
It should be set to "application default"
Removing any forced settings for anti aliasing, anisotropic.

Exclamation Ghost Enemy Guilds (Take Two)

Having a ghost enemy guild is a very common bug. Main causes of this: a guild having been disband, a server split, or if a guild name has changed due to illegal characters, offensive name, etc.

Please do not create new threads regarding this bug.

If you find your guild has a ghost enemy guild, please follow the instructions below.

Instructions:

Please email the following information to service@conqueronline.com:
1) State your server
2) State your guild name

A response may take 5-7 business days to fix your problem. Typically, the GM will remove all enemy guilds to take care of your ghost guild, so you will have to re-add the ones you wish to keep.

If your problem is not fixed after 7 business days, please send a 2nd email to the address above. Do not send more than 2 emails. You may also carbon copy this 2nd email to your server's GM (link can be found in my signature).

Thank you and enjoy Conquer!

Graphic.dll Error.... (Solution for NVidia GeoForce 4 Owners)

I finally found some more time to try and find a resolution to this lame problem. First, I have a Nvidia graphics card GeoForce 4 ti4200 8x.

Although, I did get it to work without updating my drivers, I would highly suggest that you go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers. The file I downloaded was 41 megs. Make sure you UNINSTALL any NVIDA Drivers/Software that corresponds to your video card BEFORE installing the updated drivers. Otherwise, you can run into problems and you will get errors when it tries to install.

Once your have installed the latest drivers, you should have an icon down in your bottom right of your screen called "NVIDA Settings". Right click on it and it will pull up a menu. There were four settings that I adjusted to get Coqnuer to work. Depending on what NVida card you have installed, this may vary.

I changed the following three settings as follow:

Color Quality -> Highest (32 bit)
Performance & Quality Settings -> Image Settings -> High Performance
Performance & Quality Settings -> Antialiasing -> 4x
Performance & Quality Settings -> Anisotropic -filtering > 8x

On the Antialiasing, I also used 4xs (Driect 3D Only) and this worked as well.

To be honest, I'm not sure which one really made it work since I changed all four at the same time.

Also, when I got it to work the first time, I did not download the latest drivers (I just made the changes above) and it worked fine too, but wanted to make sure I had the latest drivers.

Lastly, I don't consider myself a video card guru, but if you have a different type of card, you probably have something you could try with your driver/software to get conquer to work.

Good luck and I hope this helps someone out there!!

Arrow Fix For Cyclone Freeze Bug

Update: Another possibilty which seems to work the best is updating your drivers. I updated my nVIDIA drivers, in addition to setting my compatability mode and the problem is no longer existant. Try to update your drivers, even if it isn't nVIDIA.

If that doesn't work, you must resort to the method listed below. The Ctrl + Alt + Delete option is to just press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then press the 'Cancel' button on the blue screen. This will refresh your screen and make you able to move again. Not very useful when trying to avoid people, however.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the best way and you don't have to do that Ctrl + Alt + Delete thing anymore! I can't believe I didn't see this before hand.. if the problem is Vista... the make the game run as if it were in windows XP.. How would you do that?

Simple. Right-click your Conquer icon, shortcut, whatever and hit properties. Then, click the Compatability tab and hit the "Run this program in compatability mode for;" and then select Windows XP (SP2) and run conquer from there. You don't freeze, and no other character freezes you.

Hoorah.

Disconnect solution for Cable/DSL/Broadband connection

These updates for windows XP SP2 will help only for disconnect, not for lagging. I've searched for 2 weeks to find this solution and so far i'm satisfied with months. I'm using DSL connection and often i had to restart my computer for the internet to work again.
Download them from the links below and install one after another.
I hope i helped at least some of you.

Font problem solution

It is simply sometimes that windows can not recognize the font of your game, even if it's there. But you can help windows recognize the font. Courier font SHOULD be installed with your windows.
This is what you need to do:
1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
2. Click Tools > Folder Options...
3. On the True Type Fonts tab, check the box "Show only true type fonts in the programs on my computer"

4. Restart of your system is required.

Ping and trace routes do two seperate things
Pings tells you how long it takes your computer get a response from the address you typed in. When you get *** you're not getting an answer to your call.

How to ping:
Click start
Go to Run
Type cmd
Type ping 69.59.142.13 -t

If you only want to ping once remove the "-t" the "-t" tell the computer to keep calling.

Trace routes tells you the route your message took to get there. When you get *** trace routes can tell you where the message is getting lose.

How to trace route:
Click start
Go to Run
Type cmd
Type tracert 69.59.142.13

Ok. I will tell you straight off why the cursor doesn't show when you make your vidoes ~ Its because you are in 16bit mode for video and not 32bit. if you set your video display to 32bit, it will show the cursor while you make vides of your Conquer Experience.

Ok, now heres the issues, conquer wants to run in 16bit, if you set your video to 32 bit while running conquer, it blacks your screen, causing your to have to control+alt+delete ~ end conquer. if you change to 32bit before you run conquer in full screen, then conquer forces your display back to 16bit...

My fix around the conquer 16bit issue is:
1. Set your background to "1280 X 1024" 16bit in your dispay options.
2. Run conquer, change to window mode to "1024 X 768" in your options inside conquer. (your conquer may crash if you do this process.)
3. Close conquer if it hasnt closed yet...
4. Set your background back to "1024 X 768", but this time set it to 32bit.
5. Run conquer again "it still thinks its in winow mode for "1024 X 768" (but in actual, its full screen) run fraps, and it will show the cursor.

Hope this helps!

Guys, you all know those players are not invisible. They will appear few seconds later.

It's because the client loading faster than before since we use the prefetch technology. That means when you come to a new screen, or use scroll, use teleporter to TG, use conductress to market, the people's names and shadows around you will load faster than their bodies. In addition, even though the server is lagged and the people around you have not been fully loaded, you may move around, which is different from the old client.

So it's supposed to be that way, don't be frightened by those 'invisible people'.

Thanks a lot for reports.
