Carlin and this guy are both entertainers. They don't think what they say through, they do it for the entertainment.

Think of them as clowns.

Most religions refuse to go outside of the book anyway. Then again, most of them are just for show. I know plenty of god ph34ring Christians that cheat, steal, have sex outside of marriage, etc, etc.

In short, Don't hate on just 1 cult, erm, i mean, religion... Hate on them all.

Religion was originally a creation of man to explain things we couldn't figure out. Where did fire come from? and there we have the story of the Greek god Prometheus. Thunder? Zeus. Love? Hades. erm, Athena I meant. lol

I applaud anyone who can see past the outdated and no longer needed books of old, and learn from our mistakes in order to move onto a brighter and more sensible future.

I'd call George Carlin more-so on the right track when it came to his opinions on religion, specifically Christianity and politics.

IMO he was more of a philosophical based entertainer.

I thought so too until I saw a set of his a few days ago on HBO.

He's an intelligent guy, no doubt. But not everything he says is even factually correct. You might agree with some of what he says. But if you agree with everything, you might have to reconsider the truth of what you believe.

I'm sure a lot of people admire him for his wit. I know I do. Difference is I know it's his job. ;-)

According to Maslow's hierarchy the top is self-actualization or analysis of reality. Now there are questions as to whether the hierarchy exists in terms of the bottom needs being met before ascending to the top but Maslow's theory remains true in that it is basic human nature to explain the physical world in relation to one’s self.

Our caveman ancestors had this need as they pointed to the stars and we have this need as we question the meaning of life, our future and our past. Basically saying as many as you cringe at the thought at being religious, you are. It is your basic need to be religious and you can't avoid it unless brain dead. Let me explain further...

Being religious according to Merriam-Webster is "relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity". Translation? Saying, "I don't believe in God" equates to an acknowledged ultimate reality albeit one without a deity, however still classified as religion and being religious.

However you wish to paint it, self-actualization aka religion is a basic human need and will continue to be as long as human wish to explain the physical surroundings to themselves.

I do love irony when the Atheist yell, "I am not religious. I don't believe in God." Simply put, they are religious. They have a set of beliefs, an acknowledge reality and creed. Some Atheists even act like their deity-believing counterparts in trying to impose their belief system on others, trying to convert others to their creed, trying to suppress those that question their beliefs. One example is Communistic Russia and it suppression of the Orthodox Church.

I do find it funny the quoting of Communistic ideals when the whole purpose of those statements was to ease the replacement of one belief system for another. It was simply a power shift between the belief system of the people being controlled by the Church to the controlling Russian government.

So what is the whole point of my spazz rant? Well one you as a free thinker are religious and two religion is not the heart of the problem here. I am putting further the argument that Centralized and Organized Religion is the danger. Now that is a system that is capable of using and interpreting religion for its own goals. Returning to the USSAR example, it was atheist but was a centralized and organized belief system that was used to control and manipulate people. One can draw parallels than to other organized religions such as the Catholic Church.

Now looking at any free world country where one is truly able to believe and practice their religion freely is ideal. Here is where the argument for religion being evil falls apart. Religion is suppose to cause nothing but war and fighting on whose beliefs are right but eliminating religion is one impossible as discussed earlier it is a basic human need and second only when free religious practice is practice is religion rather harmonious.

What I am putting forth is the Atheist religion isn't the one true/correct religion but rather acceptance of all religious practice for all its diversity is the ultimate way to have resolve the problems caused by conflicting religious beliefs. We should be celebrating our differencing beliefs and not being so narrow-minded to think Christians, Muslims, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist have it right or wrong.

Personally it wouldn’t surprise me if another religious war is started, not between the Muslims and the Jews but between the Atheists and the "Believers”.

People who cannot live a clean life without a book telling them what is right and wrong, get what they deserve. They get to sit in church early sunday morning for a few boring hours of their lives.

Ah, who am I kidding, tons of christians don't even go to church, but they still call themselves chirstians LOL

Yeah. They're like babies.

"Okay, infant. I see you there, lying in the crib, playing with those toys under the dim light. I see your chest moving up and down. You appear to be breathing. You agree? Good. But do you have any idea of what the air is composed of?"

"Umm no, not really."

"Stupid baby. You don't know ****."

Baby monitor: "Who's that?! Honey, I heard voices in the baby's room! You check, I'll call 911."

"Stupid baby, getting me in trouble. I gotta go now, but we will meet again. Stupid baby."

*Escapes through window*

Yeah. It's kinda like that.

Wall of text, but I only want to say something to the last sentence.
I don't think many atheist care that other people believe.
I call myself an atheist, because I don't have the need to explain everything around me with "god made it that way!".
Basically because I find it silly
But I don't care what other people believe. They can believe what they want, just as long as they leave me out of it.

It is the moment that someone tells me what to believe, i get pissed off.
But as I said, I dont need to believe anything, in order to have a happy life. Therefore I don't.

I do sometimes "pray" to myself that i want something to happen or not happen, but that is more of a way for me to tell myself, everything is gonna go fine

We'd all be selfish, chaotic hedonists were it not for manmade social constructs such as religion that established order and gave people hope.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying any religion is right. Personally, I think most of them are outright ridiculous.

FYI, not all Christians are required to attend church.

You're never curious about the significance of your own existence?

For that reason alone, I am an agnostic trying to logically prove "god" in my own terms.

Edit: RIP Carlin.
