The guild fund serves a couple purposes.
Have you ever noticed when you died to another player, that your guild fund depleted? Well, when you are in a guild, and die to another player, your guild fund pays for part/all of the experience lost, depending on a couple of things. It depends on your rank; if you are a regular member, you lose some experience, but not as much as if you were guildless; the guild leader will not lose any experience; and I am unsure about deputy leaders and if they lose any percentage.
The second thing that determines if you lose experience will be your guild contribution; If this is zero or a positive number, and you die to an enemy, this will deplete and you won't lose any/as much experience. If this number is negative, you will lose the full amount of experience that you were supposed to.
