In my mind, spamming is a "NEP" offense, not a "PEP" one!

Isn't the whole point of a reputation system to show people with a good reputation?

It would, but it's not going to happen. At least not on this forum.

A shame... It would be nice to tell apart the helpful from the unhelpful.

Sadly, the way to do so actually leads you to believe that the majority of the unhelpful people are the helpful people, and the helpful people are the unhelpful people.

Got to look at it in reverse! Those with high post count + high reputation wont/don't help, and those without, will/do!

it would of course, but it's not happening. though i do get repped for being helpful or writing something someone liked etc... but then often enough someone comes a long and think it's funny just to nep someone. so the whole thing needs to work both ways, and unfortunately the crowd that plays conquer doesn't seem to be able to do it :p

sometimes there is worthwhile discussions in here as well... so it's not all blah blah... also it's one of the nicest threads out there, people from all servers are mostly being friendly with each other and not hating like they do on most chitchats... that's why i like this thread.

my 2 cents ;)

If the first comment was also to me, you're wrong, because I didn't try to "NEP" you.

I've only ever given positive reputation points on this forum, and see no point in negative ones.

I'd only give a negative reputation point to someone who was actually worth a negative reputation point. Say, someone who was insulting a newbie for asking a question, or, trying to discourage a newbie from playing in the first place. Spamming's not worthy of a negative reputation point... It's just useless, without point, and for the most part, annoying.

that's what you get out of this thread? that's sad then, cuz that's not how it is, a lot of people here actually do happen to be helpful as well. and i high postcount at least stands for decent behavior and means someone is talking a lot but sticking to the rules while doing it... also a lot of people with high postcounts been on these forums a loong time as well.
think more positive! ;)

A high post count, thanks to threads like these, just shows that people post a lot of useless things...

Sure, chatting's fine, but that's also what chat programs were designed for.

High post counts (back in the days before they were wanted by all on the Internet) used to show "veteran" users who knew more than the new users, who'd been around a long time and were willing to help people who had questions about, well, anything. These days everyone has a high post count, because they spam like mad, thinking that the high post count still has some meaning... It doesn't.

well you can also see the date when people joined so just going on thinking everybody with high postcount only talks jibberish is a bit superficial, don't you think? just because someone posts in here doesn't mean all they do on these forums is spam, maybe they keep the spam to this thread only? i personally don't spam anywhere else... and my high postcount surely does not come from this thread, and even here i usually only stay and talk when there is actually a conversation going on.
i've seen most of the people that post in here regulary being friendly and helpful people who may have a high postcount, yet they also been on these forums a long time.
check out sunshine chitchat for example, there you see real spam, half the threads there contain of "+1" "o rly" and actually REALLY useless **** and if they don't spam they can't manage to stay peaceful and start fighting.

i'm sure you haven't read the whole thread so you can't really say the only thing that happens here is spam, cuz that's not even how it is, it's just the most visited and talked in thread.
if it was really only dumb spam it would have been closed btw.

EDIT: and also i personally don't want everybody i start a nice convo with added on my msn.

I've noticed that every sub forum seems to have its' own spam thread, also...

I just don't see the point in them, to be honest. Why not just make one spam forum, where you can't gain reputation points, or post count? Contain it all there, no useless clutter, no people spamming just for the sake of reputation or a higher post count... The forums would look a whole lot neater, too.

If you post 10 posts a day on this thread, it takes 100 days to get 1,000 posts.

I've read "quite a bit" of this thread, out of sheer boredom and insomnia... Many people post a whole lot more than 10 times daily on this thread, so it's actually quite easy to come up with a post count like yours, purely from this thread. Now, I'm not insinuating that your post count personally is from this thread, I'm just suggesting that it's very possible that quite a lot of people on this thread with high post counts, gained the majority of those posts... inside this thread. Same goes for their reputation, and the reputation of (probably) the majority of the high-reputation forum users.

I'll leave you guys to your spamming now, though. Whatever makes you happy, right? :)

(Not claiming to have anything better to do, I'm simply bored of it for now!)
